FlipScan is designed with your privacy in mind. We store your scan history and pricing data locally on your device. We do not sell your data, run ads, or share your information with third parties beyond what is necessary to operate the app.
1. Information We Collect
FlipScan collects the following information to provide its core functionality:
- Photos you take: Images captured within the app are sent to Anthropic's API for item identification and are not stored on our servers. They are processed and immediately discarded by Anthropic per their data retention policy.
- Scan history: Item names, categories, pricing data, and thumbnail images from your scans are stored locally on your device only.
- eBay pricing data: Search queries and pricing results are cached locally on your device for up to 6 hours to improve performance.
- App usage: Crash reports and anonymous usage statistics may be collected via Firebase Crashlytics to help us improve the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected solely to:
- Identify items from photos using AI vision (Anthropic Claude API)
- Retrieve current eBay pricing data via the eBay Browse and Marketplace Insights APIs
- Store your scan history locally for your reference
- Calculate profit margins and buying price recommendations
- Improve app stability and performance through crash reporting
3. Third-Party Services
FlipScan integrates with the following third-party services:
- Anthropic Claude API: Used for AI-powered item identification from photos. Images are transmitted securely and are not retained by Anthropic beyond the immediate API call. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- eBay APIs: Used to retrieve product pricing and listing data. No personal eBay account information is accessed. See eBay's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing: Used to process subscription payments. Payment information is handled entirely by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase (Google): Used for crash reporting and analytics. See Firebase Privacy Policy.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your scan history and cached pricing data are stored exclusively on your device using Android's local database (Room). This data does not leave your device except as described in Section 3 above.
We implement appropriate technical measures to protect information transmitted to third-party APIs, including HTTPS encryption for all network requests.
5. eBay Account Deletion
In compliance with eBay's developer program requirements: if you notify us that you have deleted your eBay account, we will delete any associated data stored in connection with FlipScan within 30 days. To request deletion, contact us at the email below.
FlipScan does not access, store, or process your eBay account credentials or personal eBay account information at any time.
6. Children's Privacy
FlipScan is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data stored locally on your device through the app's History screen
- Delete your scan history at any time within the app (History → Clear All)
- Request deletion of any data we may hold by contacting us
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of FlipScan after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
